I was me.
Mine is a little different. I'm going to Narc on myself. I was driving home on the Chgo expressway system. It was late (9pm) so the roads were moving fast. A friend texted me and often if it don't text back they keep doing it over and over again. I pulled off, because fortunately I could. But it would be really nice if I could press an I AM DRIVING button on my phone (like the red button that turns my ringer off for a call in a meeting). Our phones are ever present now, we should do somethin

Killed mother while texting and driving
Everytime I turn on the tv or news I hear a message about texting and driving. I am so thankful that people have raised awareness about the dangers of texting and driving. Unfortunately, when I was 16 I was not aware. I was driving across the country with my mother. When we got into our home state, New Mexico, we crashed. She was reading a book and didnt see me texting and driving, my 3 year old little sister was in the back. Our car flipped 8 times. My mother did not survive the crash.

Texting while crossing the street
Date uncertain. I was waiting in my vehicle to turn right; pedestrian had her head down looking at her hands (back to me) while crossing the street; another driver was backing up out of the one way street from several cars away; Fearing a collision, I honked my horn and the pedestrian looked up and jumped out of the way. The crosswalk does not protect you!

Dangerously Texting and Driving
Since texting/handling a cell phone is illegal in Chicago, my brother decides he'd put his phone down on his lap while driving. He's looking down and texting while going 60 mph on a local street and never saw the car stopped in front of him at a light. Luckily, it was mostly bumper damage for the other car but his car was wrecked, and a cop saw what had happened and ticketed him.

I was waiting at a turn signal behind about 10 cars; the arrow turned green and the cars in the front started moving, but the back of the line (me) was still stationary. I was rear ended by a person that I think was looking at the cars in the front of the line instead of those not yet moving.

So my mum and dad were fighting about something or other, just as my dad and I were supposed to be somewhere. As we were driving, my dad was ranting and screaming about this as I did my best to ignore him, so neither of us noticed the cab that he rear-ended. We were in a pick-up, so the tiny cab had significant damages, but the driver was not injured.

A man in a lexus did not want to wait for the pedestrian in the crosswalk, the driver wanted to make his turn while talking/listening to his phone next to his ear, almost hit the women. Screeching, breaking tires etc. Many times in the last few months I have witnessed situations like this or worse, crashes. I thought this was just terrible,I thought this was one of the most cases of distracted driving.

When I am sitting in my car at a red light, I make it a habit of identifying drivers that are reading their phones or texting while in their cars. Amazingly she jerked her head up and slammed the brakes - I could just about see the under carriage of her vehicle. When the light turned green I was looking forward to wishing her a good day, but she turned.

Me, my 3 yr old son and my oldest sister were driving home to Albuquerque, NM from reno. My sister was driving, with me in the passenger seat and my son in the back passenger side seat in his carseat. We just passed through Tonopah and werent 1 mile out of town when the car started swerving. My sister lost control of it and it tipped on the passengers side and rolled about 3 times. When it stopped rolling, i climbed out of it, got my son out, he was unharmed, went back to check if my sister was

In AM rush hour traffic I look in my rear view mirror and the woman driving the car behind me was applying mascara with her right hand, and talking into her cell phone being held in front of her mouth with her left hand. She "drove" at least 3/4 of a mile this way and never touched the steering wheel. Look ma, no hands!

Driver on phone runs stoplight
I entered the crosswalk in front a car that had stopped in the outer (curb) lane for a red light. I was pushing my shopping cart eastward across Lyndale. As I reached the inner lane, I noticed an SUV approaching from the north. He was going at least 30 mph and didn't notice me or the stopped car in the outer lane. Realizing that he was going to run the light, I instinctively drew back my cart. As he shot by I saw him talking on the cellphone. I wish I'd shoved the cart into his path.

Tail-gating
Just in general, people on cell phones tailgate so they don't have to pay attention. They let the other driver do it for them, and track their movements. This is very annoying and sometimes dangerous. I usually slowly decrease my MPH, so that they finally notice and then pass me.

Driver was in a convertible bug, with both thumbs on an iphone, at the top of the steering wheel. This went on for nearly 5 miles, all the way down Wilshire.

Senior Driving Course
I had JUST finished an internet AARP driving course segment on Distracted Driving. We were rushing to a social event, and my wife asked what I had learned. 1. Drive while calm; 2, maintain safe distance from other cars; 3, set mirrors beforehand; remember to use your turn signals. I told my wife I had just forgotten to do all these and all the others in less than four minutes after turning off the computer. HeLLO! Why did I take this course????

Actually, I was expecting a very urgent email. I heard the alert on my phone, looked down for just a second and...I hit the back of the car in front of me. I slammed on the breaks in time to only aggressively tap the rear of the car. THe driver was very nice and understanding. He checked his car. There was no damage to the car, him or me-Thank goodness. Yesterday Versus Today
20 years ago, when children sat in the front seat and cried, we could reach a toy or bottle and hand it to them without looking. Now that the kids have to sit in the back seat and SCREAM when they can't see you, we are forced to look to the back seat to check on them. Someone needs to figure out what is wrong with that. I see so many people driving along and looking to the back seat who wouldn't have to, if the kid could be seen and reached. Children should be in front or left home. Perio

While traveling on the expressway, one of my songs came on the radio. As the music blared through the speakers, I began singing louder and louder. My right hand left the steering wheel to hold my imaginary microphone, and as real stars do, I closed my eyes for a split second to sing the high note. As I impeccably finished the note, I opened my eyes only to discover the person in front of me slamming on their brakes. On instinct, I swerved on to the shoulder and barely avoided a collision.

Trying to do too many things at once
While backing out of a parking space, a lady across the isle began to back out of her space. I was clearly already out before her because she damaged my back quarter panel on my car. Looking in my rearview mirror I could clearly see the cell phone up to her ear. Needless to say her insurance company paid for my damages but I was lucky someone saw the whole thing and verified my account of the whole thing.

Rear ended by guy looking out the window
I was sitting at a red light and noticed in my rear view mirror this car coming up behind me, fairly quickly. I could tell that he wasn't looking ahead, but over his shoulder, and subsequently rear ended me. He actually told me that he was looking over his shoulder into the back seat to see what was rattling around. No one was injured in the accident, but I'm sure it certainly helped him not to go investigating what's rattling around in the back seat while driving down the road.

Drivers must put down the phone and pay attention to the road! A group of bikers cruising along the highway nearly went down after a driver failed to yield the right of way then attempted to pass a biker--very dangerous. The girl behind the wheel had no clue what she'd done. The phone remained in her hand the whole time.

Driving While Distracted on the W. River Drive
While coming home from work I noticed a young lady driving while she was texting. She got my attention because her driving was very irratic. When I passed her I noticed she was texting. While attempting to text a make a sharp turn she lost controll and ended up on the sidewalk. There was too much traffic behind to stop. She did not hit anything or anyone. I know she messed her wheels up because the curb was high. Well that's my story.

My Son Almost Died
I was walking to the preschool with my 2 toddlers. We waited for the 4-way walk signal to cross the intersection. When we were 1/2 way though, a woman talking on a cellphone turned left, running a red light. She LITERALLY almost ran over my son! She came close enough that I was able to slam my fist on her trunk, but she was STILL clueless, chatting on the phone! It's a vivid & horrifying memory to this day

The girlfriends fault?
Riding my bike through a controlled intersection, made eye contact with a driver on my right and all was well, then he hits the gas and turns in front of me, misses my front wheel by inches. He realizes he almost nailed me, stops, rolls down his window, holds up his cell phone and says "sorry dude, my girlfriend was texting me"......Guess it was her fault??

But to my suprise, 10 seconds later he began searching for NPR on his laptop and was hooking up the cord to his car so it would go through the speakers...frightening.

Talking on cell and driving
Three people were driving toward the mall. The driver, was talking on cell phone and probably also being distracted by the others in the car. She cut across 3 lanes of traffic to turn into the mall. Right in front of me and another car. She didn't even notice we were there. Both of us hit our brakes. Fortunately both of us were paying attention. It would have been very easy for all of us to end up in an accident though.

Traffic was bumper to bumper during rush hour. A female in her early 20's was reading a book propped on her steering wheel while creeping along in traffic. I observed moving forward on several occasions, only rarely looking up at traffic.

I texted while driving and almost rear-ended a guy. We were moving slowly so it would have been a low-impact collision, but I should have known better. Next time, I'll pull over and text. The phone is like a drug! Keep it away from me!

What were you doing?
What distraction caused this driver to speed and crash into my brother's stopped car, causing him severe trauma. What could have been so important to cause injury so severe that he is still in the hospital 5 days later? Imagine the terror I felt when he couldn't lift his arms to even scratch his nose for 48 hrs. Was the distraction worth almost ruining someone's life forever?!!! Shame on you!

Engaged with a cell phone on the road!
I was sitting at a very busy intersection at a red light watching the other drivers go by. A trucker (trucking company to remain nameless) was busily staring down at his cell phone in hand while trying to beat the yellow light heading southbound on Harlem! Danger!

Reading....
Saw someone down an extremely busy interstate in Georgia. They were going rather slow and swerving a little bit. As we passed them, this person had a NOVEL at the steering wheel and was reading while trying to drive. I have never in my life seen something so ridiculous. Of course we were outraged at the carelessness of this person.

Tail-gating
Just in general, people on cell phones tailgate so they don't have to pay attention. They let the other driver do it for them, and track their movements. This is very annoying and sometimes dangerous. I usually slowly decrease my MPH, so that they finally notice and then pass me.

Deck of cards
A pick up truck had 10 particle boards stacked in the back of his truck bed with the door open, not secured. As he made a left turn up a small hill, they fell out, like a deck of cards, all over the street. I knew something would happen and we were following several car lengths directly behind him luckily. If we had driven closer behind, a board may hit our windshield, probably not setting off the airbags, hitting glass first instead of metal. It was a great example to my teenager in the car. Go

Talking on speakerphone
Thinking that using the hands-free speakerphone made talking on my cell ok, I was chatting away and driving a route I knew by heart, when i suddenly found myself in the wrong lane of a highway - one that was exit-only! I didn't do what some might - veer back into the heavily traveled lane I wanted - but I exited, hung up, and got back on the highway. I hadn't realized until then how distracting a cell-phone call could actually be - but I definitely was not 'present' as a driver.

Conceited and arrogant
Outside of the constant texting going, I'm lucky to get home on my Harley, but the completely immature, unresponsible thing is women/girls (these are the only ones I've seen do this) point both left, right, outside mirros, and center rearview mirror at their face so they can look at themselves from all 3 angles. However, they are oblivious to seeing the driver beside or behind them. They usually do 10 to 15 mph slower than the posted limit in the passing lane, and don't even know your stuck b

Pedestrians run over by texting Mom
A retired couple in our community walks everyday down a residential road for exercise. Last week, a texting Mom in an SUV crossed over the center line and ran them down from behind. Thankfully, both will survive, but with substantial injuries. The driver's infant was tossed out of her car seat as well. Both families are quite devastated and all of it was completely avoidable. Put the phones down and drive!

A friend of mine was a front seat passanger. His friend was driving and dropped a cd he was wanting to listen to. Killing all two passangers in the other vehichle (an older couple in their mid 70s.) My friend suffered compound fractures. My friends driver suffered a few fractures as well. The distraction killed 2 inocent people.

Texting While Driving
While I was walking across Dickens Avenue (inside the pedestrian markings), a SUV failed to stop at the intersection. She missed hitting me by a yard. I screamed and she slammed on her breaks, stopping in the intersection. I walked up to her SUV as she was hiding her telephone. She had been texting a message, evidently forgetting that she was driving her SUV. She said a brisk "sorry" and drove off.

Cell Phone Wreck
Person in front of me merging onto highway did not accelerate or check traffic in lane. 30 mph at bottom of ramp, this person slammed on the brakes because a SEMI was next to him...and his cargo was next to me! To avoid a serious accident I had to go onto the shoulder and on the grass. Why! HE WAS ON THE CELL PHONE! I have also been suddenly cut off when someone sees they are missing their exit and make that turn without looking...ON THE CELL PHONE!

Perio

Driving While Stupid
I am not reporting an incident. Rather, I would like to comment on this process. As an Orthopaedic surgeon I see patients involved in MVA's daily. These range from the bumped and bruised to the severely injured and maimed. One thing that they all have in common is that they were not to blame. It's always the other guy. The other common factor is that they were all doing something stupid. Speeding, especially through yellow or red lights and in parking lots, drinking and, yes, even texting.
