I was me.

Mine is a little different. I'm going to Narc on myself. I was driving home on the Chgo expressway system. It was late (9pm) so the roads were moving fast. A friend texted me and often if it don't text back they keep doing it over and over again. I pulled off, because fortunately I could. But it would be really nice if I could press an I AM DRIVING button on my phone (like the red button that turns my ringer off for a call in a meeting). Our phones are ever present now, we should do somethin

Killed mother while texting and driving

Everytime I turn on the tv or news I hear a message about texting and driving. I am so thankful that people have raised awareness about the dangers of texting and driving. Unfortunately, when I was 16 I was not aware. I was driving across the country with my mother. When we got into our home state, New Mexico, we crashed. She was reading a book and didnt see me texting and driving, my 3 year old little sister was in the back. Our car flipped 8 times. My mother did not survive the crash.

Texting while crossing the street

Date uncertain. I was waiting in my vehicle to turn right; pedestrian had her head down looking at her hands (back to me) while crossing the street; another driver was backing up out of the one way street from several cars away; Fearing a collision, I honked my horn and the pedestrian looked up and jumped out of the way. The crosswalk does not protect you!

Dangerously Texting and Driving

Since texting/handling a cell phone is illegal in Chicago, my brother decides he'd put his phone down on his lap while driving. He's looking down and texting while going 60 mph on a local street and never saw the car stopped in front of him at a light. Luckily, it was mostly bumper damage for the other car but his car was wrecked, and a cop saw what had happened and ticketed him.

Rear ending at a turn light

I was waiting at a turn signal behind about 10 cars; the arrow turned green and the cars in the front started moving, but the back of the line (me) was still stationary. I was rear ended by a person that I think was looking at the cars in the front of the line instead of those not yet moving.

Never Drive Under Stress

So my mum and dad were fighting about something or other, just as my dad and I were supposed to be somewhere. As we were driving, my dad was ranting and screaming about this as I did my best to ignore him, so neither of us noticed the cab that he rear-ended. We were in a pick-up, so the tiny cab had significant damages, but the driver was not injured.

Pedestrian almost hit by driver talking on phone

A man in a lexus did not want to wait for the pedestrian in the crosswalk, the driver wanted to make his turn while talking/listening to his phone next to his ear, almost hit the women. Screeching, breaking tires etc. Many times in the last few months I have witnessed situations like this or worse, crashes. People need to band together on this issue as it affects each and every person on this planet, and our lives.P.S. Pedestrians have the right of way, always!

Driver Shaving while driving

There was a day that I was on my way in to the office, when I saw a driver shaving while he was driving to work, he's not paying any attention to the cars that are stopped in front of him at a red light and almost rear ended a car in front of him. I thought this was just terrible,I thought this was one of the most cases of distracted driving.

Spilled Jamba Juice

I was stopped at a red light. Without warning, I was hit extremely hard. The witness inte car behind me said she saw the car in the lane to her right swerve, nearly hitting her and then slam into me. The 19yo driver then got out of his parent's newly damaged car, wearing bedroom slippers. He stated that he had spilled his drink. The impact was enough to break his front axel. That driver actually asked me if I wanted to wait for the police inside of the Jamba Juice shop. I was told the ne

Cosmopolitan, a fashionable date killer.

I was driving back from farmville with a 90 day driving permit, with a girl I had taken shopping. She had bought many things, including a Cosmo magazine, which dropped under my feet. I reached for it, in high oncoming and going traffic. I blacked out after veering off to the right and over correcting; I woke up for only a second to see us rolling down a hill back toward the road. I was so grateful that I didnt involve anyone else with my toyota 4-runner, which would have pummeled a family van

Being a Vigilant Driver

When I am sitting in my car at a red light, I make it a habit of identifying drivers that are reading their phones or texting while in their cars. You can usually identify them because they keep looking down at their laps. I also make it a habit of letting them drive past me and I then get behind them.

Right of Way

In the left lane there is a green arrow that indicates you are good to go. All the incoming traffic coming towards me had stopped except for one lane. This large vehicle came barreling down the lane and nearly clipped the tail of our car and the person did not brake till they were halfway down the block. This inattention could have been fatal.

SUV over Corvette

Traveling down Talcott to Cumberland I get a red light. Stop and waiting for the light to change. Look into my rear view mirror and all I see is a monster SUV coming and coming and not applying the brakes - was unable to move - all I could do was cross my fingers and lay on my horn. Amazingly she jerked her head up and slammed the brakes - I could just about see the under carriage of her vehicle. When the light turned green I was looking forward to wishing her a good day, but she turned.

Disappearing Mother

Saw a driverless car with 2 children in the back approach a turn in the road and nearly drive straight off the road. After the car hit the gravel, saw a woman's head pop-up and grab the wheel and regain control. She apparently was looking for something on the floor?

Too many to describe...

I see something that warrants description on this site at least 25 times per day on my commute. People don't drive anymore - they ride in a car, almost as though the car is driving itself. I've seen them reading, on laptops, cell phones, texting, applying makeup - you name it and I see it everyday. Good luck here...

Painting fingernails!

A young girl was driving with her knees and with her left hand on the top of the steering wheel...painting her fingernails using the right hand! She was going 55 mph in a 65 mph highway in the left lane (the passing/fast lane). What was she thinking?!?!?!?! I passed her and gave her a wide berth!

Eating and Texting

I was driving behind a vehicle and the driver kept breaking numerous times. The speed limit was 45 mph and the driver was only driving approximately 30 mph. I try to use caution and patience while driving. I was able to finally get around the driver and noticed that he was eating a burger and trying to text at the same time. I was furious with the fact that he was doublely distracted. He was disrupting the flow of traffic and not practicing safe driving skills at all.

TOO LOUD!

After leaving a gathering on Saturday afternoon a car full of youngsters-maybe high school age flies through the intersection. Good thing I was stopped. They were supposed to stop at the stop sign, but they didn't. On top of that sirens could be hear in the background. These kids out for a good time, top down, music way to loud, everyone talking and laughing away could have caused an accident or been in one themselves. They were not paying attention to the road whatsoever

Traveling on Rte 14 to Crystal Lake -speed limit is 55 - car in front traveling at 30 miles - looked like he had a stiff neck - stiff neck was phone tucked under his chin and one hand on the wheel and the other holding a hot dog. Honking the horn did not make a difference - he just continued as he was - Finally cars were able to go around him and he proceeded to wave at everyone - which die not make for happy drivers.

CHECK THE BLIND SPOT, NOT THE PHONE

As usuall, usual meaning almost everyday, I was almost run off of the road by someone who does not take the time to use a signal or check their blind spot before changing lanes because they are using their cell phone for conversation or texting. Although I try and stay out of other drivers blinds spots, it is nearly impossible when passing and the phone keeps other drivers from performing a simple manuver (lane change)safely.

FORD HD F350 SLAMS MOTORCYLCE STOPPED AT LIGHT

It was our 28 wedding anniversary and my husband and I were riding our 1995 Harley to go have a lunch celebration. It was about 1:00 pm. We were stopped at a red light and as I began to embrace my husband in anticipation of a green light. We both survived, still have surgery and therapy 8 months later. The man who hit us had just purchased his new truck and was checking out the radio buttons didnt see the red light or us, he said. He got a $150.00 fine, careless driving, plead guilty in court, d

NJ Turnpike

We were on the NJ Turnpike behind a driver texting. There were young people in the car - the car was full. We pulled into a rest stop and saw this same vehicle and its occupants. Each of them was texting - walking and texting. Endlessly. Can't people put away the cell phones/computers/hand-helds, etc., etc., while driving and do they have to text ALL THE TIME?! My concern is for the innocent victims of this foolishness! Some very stiff fines for this activity may make a difference!
